Massive concrete pour next step for Metallurg

A massive concrete pour at Metallurg Vanadium Corp. on Southgate Road will be the next step in the construction of a new raw material storage facility being built at the plant.

Earlier this year, the company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AMG Advanced Metallurgical Group N.V. and soon to be named AMG Vanadium, Inc., began construction on a new 43,000 square foot raw material storage building at its plant on Southgate Road.

This $6 million storage facility is a part of Metallurg Vanadium's expansion project which will increase vanadium production capacity at its Cambridge facility. The building meets or exceeds all Ohio Environmental Protection Agency standards for safe containment of spent refinery catalyst, a raw material used in the production of ferrovanadium, the company's primary product offering. Its state-of-the-art design features a unique sub floor liner system. The building will be linked to a dedicated railcar unloading and conveyor system, greatly enhancing operational efficiency.

Metallurg Vanadium officials said they are proud to be utilizing a number of local contractors in this expansion project.

"We're pleased and proud to be continuing our company's long-term expansion plan right here in Guernsey County," said Hoy E. Frakes Jr., president. "To further illustrate our commitment to the region, we strive to partner with local contractors whenever possible. It's a win-win situation -- for our company and our local economy."

This weekend a number of those local contractors will be involved in the pouring of the building's concrete floor. Over 400 concrete trucks will be at the plant site for the pour beginning early tomorrow morning and extending through Saturday, June 12, or Sunday, June 13, in the event of inclement weather. The Guernsey County Sheriff's Department will be providing assistance with traffic flow for motorists.

Metallurg Vanadium specializes in the environmentally beneficial conversion of oil refinery and power plant waste products into specialty metals used by global steel producers in automotive, energy transmission and construction applications. By using materials which would otherwise be discarded as waste, Metallurg Vanadium encourages environmental stewardship, energy conservation and resource recovery, making it the environmental leader in this global industry. Metallurg Vanadium is the North American ferrovanadium market share leader and has two primary product lines: FEROVAN®, its ferrovanadium alloy used in the production of steel to give it strength, and FeNiMoly® which is a valuable additive utilized in the production of stainless and carbon steels.
